Pregnancy is one of the most transformative times in a woman's life. Whether you're having your first child or fifth, your body undergoes incredible physical and hormonal changes to support your growing baby. During this time proper spinal and pelvic balance is key to helping your body and your baby function at their best.
At Yost Family Chiropractic we focus on NeuroStructural Correction, meaning we address the structure of your spine and its effects on the function of your nervous system, so your body can do what it's designed to do, adapt, heal, and grow new life efficiently. Breaking this down, we'll focus on what we refer to as the 3 P's of Pregnancy: Power, Passage, and Passenger

The 3 P's of Pregnancy
Power
Power refers to your body's ability to produce and coordinate effective contractions during labor. Your uterus is a muscle, and like every muscle, it relies on clear communication from the nervous system to work properly.
IF there's a structural shift in the lower spine, it can obstruct those nerve signals and lead to uncoordinated or inefficient contractions. Normal structure helps you body maintain optimal nerve supply to the uterus allowing it to function properly when it matters most.
Passage
Passage describes the bony pelvis through which your baby passes during delivery. When the pelvis is shifted it causes abnormal joint movement and tension in the surrounding soft tissues. During pregnancy this can lead to discomfort, increased pelvic pressure, and uterine constraint. As labor approaches, limited pelvic motion can reduce the space available for your baby to move into the ideal position for birth, potentially contributing to a more difficult and longer labor.
Chiropractic adjustments aimed at restoring pelvic structure and balance help ensure the passage is open, moving properly, and ready when the time comes.
Passenger
The final "P" is Passenger, your baby.
A balanced spine and pelvis not only supports mom's comfort, but also provides a better environment for baby's growth and positioning. When pelvic shifts restrict motion or space, babies have a harder time moving into optimal head-down position for delivery.
Regular prenatal chiropractic care helps keep the mother's pelvis symmetrical and the nervous system free from obstruction which are vital to supporting normal fetal development and positioning.
The Role of NeuroStructural Chiropractic During Pregnancy
Throughout pregnancy, changes in posture, weight distribution, and hormones all increase the likelihood of spinal and pelvic structural shifts. These changes can place extra stress on the nerves that coordinate movement of the pelvis, uterus, and surrounding structures.
At Yost Family Chiropractic we use gentle, specific NeuroStrucutral adjustments to help restore normal alignment, remove nerve obstruction, and promote better motion through the spine and pelvis. The goal is simple: to support a smoother, more comfortable pregnancy, an efficient labor, and the best possible start for both mom and baby.
